The client, Audley Retirement, is a market leader in the provision of a new concept in retirement living within the UK; the luxury retirement village. Residents buy and live in their own homes whilst benefitting from the use of communal facilities within the estate.
Inglewood is set within 39 acres of parkland. The project comprised rebuilding the main house brick-by-brick to provide 32 one and two-bedroom apartments, morning room, library, hobbies’ room, restaurant, bistro/ bar, kitchen and laundry.
Within the grounds, a new fitness centre with swimming pool, gym and spa treatment rooms was provided, along with ancillary buildings and refurbishment of the listed former clock tower to form a management suite.
Due to its dilapidated condition, the main building was demolished and rebuilt to match the style of the existing. By taking moulds of features prior to demolition, the original façade was replicated and the integrity of the internal layout successfully incorporated into the new building.
Due to the site’s location, there was a lack of mains utilities and, as a result, energy was provided from ground source heat pumps, with all apartments heated via exhaust air heat pumps. Water is provided from an on-site bore hole.
