The existing facility is one of three highly secure mental health hospitals in England, and is internationally recognised for its specialised work and research activities.
The original Broadmoor Hospital was built in 1863. High levels of care have proved difficult and costly due to the Victorian layout.
Ridge was appointed NEC project manager for the overall development part-way through the construction, in order to drive the contract management processes and programme to conclude the construction of the new hospital.
Creating new structures will transform the 150-year-old hospital into a fit-for-purpose facility. Designed to modern environmental standards, the new hospital will be energy-efficient and cost efficient to run, thereby allowing the Trust to significantly reduce its impact on the environment and make savings which will be reinvested back into patient care.
Centrally located on the campus is a hub building housing a variety of services, located over two floors; that include therapy and educational services, a multi-faith centre, vocational services workshops, patient physical health care centre and family visiting suite.
The Programme Board appreciated your experience as Project Manager and your calm and methodical nature. The Trust would have no hesitation in re-engaging Ridge in the future.
