Carlton House is a contemporary and bold residential project constructed in a prominent location along Putney’s Upper Richmond Road. It replaced a 1960s office building.
The scheme was to deliver 73 new apartments and four commercial units that would also provide a ‘gateway’ into Carlton Drive and the residential areas beyond. The building had to be meticulously designed to a very high specification, with consideration given to the height, massing and spatial relationships to the neighbouring buildings.
Ridge supplied building services, consultancy and sustainability advice, including strict adherence to the Employer’s Requirements. The nature of the high-quality development meant a precise standard was applied to every element of the commission, including the complex electrical infrastructure and lighting design.
The development itself features low and zero carbon technologies, complying with the Mayor of London’s requirements. Photovoltaic systems were mounted on the roof and an efficient combined heat and power community heating scheme was installed. An automatic sprinkler system was provided to all dwellings, and an integrated smoke ventilation and environmental control system serve the communal area.
The requirement for an onsite electrical generator was designed in conjunction with the fire officer. All dwellings incorporate a heating interface unit, underfloor heating and heat recovery ventilation.
Ridge also provided thermal and over-heating analysis, as well as building energy modelling to ensure Part L and Planning compliance, in accordance with the Mayor of London’s development guide.
