Ridge is responsible for delivering Principal Designer & CDM (Construction Design and Management) Advisor services throughout the project. The works are in two phases, firstly the construction of ground floor retail unit, and then the main works, strip-out and construction/ fit-out of the remaining floors.
The delivery of the project presents many difficulties, in particular the central London location, with limited external space for delivery and storage of materials.
Sustainability is a key project value, and the re-use of existing materials/ items has been at the forefront of the planning and refurbishment works. Ridge has highlighted risks to the project team and assisted in providing strategic solutions for the safe management of the volunteer/ charity organisation involved in reclaiming existing materials.
Through attendance at regular design team meetings, and by collation of the CDM risk register, Ridge has been central to ensuring that designers apply the principles of prevention to the works. Ridge has led focus groups to develop the cleaning and maintenance strategy for the completed building. This required extensive consideration by the project team due to the number of green walls, terraces, balconies and glazed areas situated within the refurbishment.
As the project moved into the construction phase, Ridge was responsible for reviewing the construction phase plan and advising the client of its sufficiency, issuing the F10 Notification to the HSE and undertaking regular health and safety inspections to monitor the principal contractor’s management arrangements on site.
