Old Stocks Inn – Civil EngineeringStow On The Wold

New owners of the Grade II listed Old Stocks Inn transformed the property by completing a full overhaul of the building. All internal areas were refurbished to provide 18 en-suite guest rooms, lounge and dining facilities, new kitchen and patio area, conference / meeting and an off-street deli / sandwich bar.

The project required a full condition survey of external fabric to identify where elements had failed, or were expected to fail; this included roofs, walls, guttering and drainage. The findings were used to develop a fabric repair schedule that complimented the internal architectural works.

Alterations to the existing structural fabric included assessment of existing original timber framing and removal of load-bearing walls to provide open-plan spaces more suited to the front of house environment.

Detailed design recommendations were made to repair and replace critical below ground drainage items and reconfigure the system for new commercial kitchen operations.

Ridge engineers worked closely with end users and architects to integrate modern functioning appliances and equipment within a historic and delicate context to achieve a finish of the highest quality.

This project required a pro-active and responsive approach to allow the design to be manipulated to suit changing conditions and characteristics as more of the existing structure was uncovered during the works.
