Refurbishment of the existing Lodge at Pembroke College in the Grade I listed College building, to provide a purpose formed and state-of-the-art Porter’s Lodge.
The existing lodge, constructed in the early 1800’s, did not provide sufficient space or a ‘sense of arrival’ to the College. The quad adjacent to the lodge required a strategy to provide fully level and accessible circulation to all areas of the College. Ridge worked closely with the College steering group to develop a scheme that was sensitive to its historic context, and also created a new welcoming light and contemporary environment, that enhances the historic setting using refined details and materials such as bronze, cast iron, limestone and glass.
The new lodge includes a complete refurbishment of all existing windows and fittings with the addition of two new bespoke frameless glass entrance doors and a range of bespoke oak furniture designed in house by Ridge. The generous space provides porters with a more appropriate work environment and visitors with an improved reception space.
