The MercianBirmingham

The Mercian will be the tallest residential tower in Birmingham. It will offer high-quality PRS apartments plus communal facilities including a 200m rooftop running track, one of the first in the UK housing market.

Ridge provided BIM Information Management and BIM Coordination services as a direct appointment to the client, Moda Living, during pre-contract stages. Through post-contract stages, Ridge is providing BIM Information Management services to the main contractor. The Mercian will offer more than 480 apartments with class-leading communal facilities. Through our work on other Moda Living schemes across the country, a key part of our role is to lead the implementation of BIM processes with each design team to consistently align with the client’s strategic objectives.

Initial activities involved agreeing the principles and processes with the design team by compiling the BIM Execution Plan (BEP), which aligned with the contents of the Employer’s Information Requirements (EIR). Key activities during the project include hosting BIM workshops to feedback results from federating, reviewing, and performing clash detection on the design team models. Ridge also led the development and collation of data deliverables (COBie) through these forums.

Through experience of working with Moda Living on other projects across the UK, Ridge was able to drive a consistent approach to use BIM across multiple schemes. In addition, coordination and collaboration ahead of major milestones and consistent deliverables reduced risk while improving quality.
