Ridge project receives Highly Commended in Civic Trust Awards

Providing student accommodation for Oxford University’s Somerville College, the Catherine Hughes Building in Oxford has been highly commended in this year’s Civic Trust Awards.

With all mechanical and electrical services provided by Ridge, the new building provides 68 bedrooms and ancillary spaces which allow the college to accommodate its entire undergraduate community within its Oxford site. The four-storey building also features a dedicated study space for graduate learning and interaction.

Celebrating outstanding architecture, planning and design, the Civic Trust Awards recognised the building’s modernist design, sculptured brickwork, and full-height windows – calling the building ‘beautifully designed’.

Last year, the Catherine Hughes Building also won a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Regional Award. It was also named the ‘best brick-built educational structure in the UK’ by the Brick Development Association.
