RNLI Wells named 2024 Civic Trust Awards regional finalist

30 November 2023

We are delighted that RNLI Wells in Norfolk, for which Ridge provided cost management services, has been named a regional finalist for a prestigious Civic Trust Award.

All Regional Finalists go on to be considered by the national Civic Trust judging panel, with the national winners notified on 8 January and the level of award revealed at the 2024 Civic Trust Awards ceremony in March.

The new RNLI lifeboat station at Wells-next-the-Sea in Norfolk was built to house a new, faster and more agile Shannon-class all-weather lifeboat, which was partly funded by a community campaign, and also houses a D class inshore lifeboat. The 530 sq m building provides much-improved facilities for the crew and space for community engagement. The design, by Studio Four Architects, employs a glulam frame and timber cladding, complementing the beautiful surroundings.

The Ridge Cost Management team selected two separate contractors, respectively covering the civils and building elements of the project, and provided value engineering before the start on site, reducing the contract sum by about 5%. The foundations and services work undertaken by Mackley, with Reside constructing and fitting out the building and external areas.

Well done to the RNLI Wells project team and the station’s crew for this well-deserved recognition.

“The RNLI Wells project team is delighted about the Civic Trust’s recognition of this great project – not just because of the excellent collaboration between us in delivering this project, but also because it honours the vital, lifesaving work performed by the RNLI volunteers based at the station. As the new station and its new Shannon lifeboat were funded in part through community and charity fundraising, it was important for us to ensure that every penny spent achieved value for money.”
