Ridge provided multidisciplinary services on the Greyfriars Church project, which replaced the inappropriate 1970s-constructed front foyer of Reading’s 14th century, Grade I-listed Greyfriars Church as well as repurposing two dilapidated Victorian terraced houses and constructing architecturally sympathetic new-build facilities. The old foyer detracted from the beautiful church and hid its architectural heritage. The transparent new atrium allows the church walls to be seen again and provides a welcoming space, including a café, bookshop and lounge for events or socialising.
Completed in September 2021, the Burrell House project involved the stabilisation and refurbishment of a derelict and unsafe Victorian residential building in the grounds of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester to form the new Winchester Hospice, providing compassionate, specialist care for up to 10 inpatient residents. There was no dedicated hospice in Winchester before this project completed; Burrell House provides a well-equipped and pleasant environment locally for people who live around Winchester, easing the burden on residents and their loved ones.
Bradbury View is a welcoming residential extension to Winchester charity Trinity’s day centre, creating much-needed apartments and communal facilities to help vulnerable people transition from homelessness. The sustainable, psychologically informed design provides a supportive environment to help transform lives. The wellbeing-friendly accommodation supplements Trinity’s programme of activities, therapies and treatment. The project team worked collaboratively to ensure the delivery of a high-quality building suitable for the complex requirements of Trinity and its residents.
Congratulations to our Winchester and Reading teams, and to our clients and partners on all these great projects, for these well-deserved nominations.
