Stanhope Gate had been used as a commercial office and the project was to reinstate the property into a single residence. Ridge carried out a sustainability appraisal during the design stage to comply with local planning policies.
Energy efficiency measures, including improved U-values and high-efficiency plant, were incorporated into the design. Calculations show an improvement of 46% on annual estimated CO2 emissions when comparing the newly refurbished residence to the old building.
Works included installation of underfloor heating and comfort cooling throughout, provided by high-efficiency variable refrigerant flow heat pumps.
Integrating the new building services into the existing fabric of a listed building was a challenge, but collaborative working between Ridge, the architect and interior designers ensured a seamless installation.
The lighting control, audio, visual, door access and security are all integrated together, with the systems also linking to the Building Management Systems to control the mechanical plant.
