Cytiva – Project Topaz Cardiff

We delivered a multidiscipline design, delivery and project management service for a state-of-the-art biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Cardiff. This was a time-critical £63m transformation of a warehouse into a 11,000 sqm manufacturing facility.

This £63m project for global life sciences leader Cytiva, transformed a former warehouse unit in Cardiff into a 11,000m² manufacturing facility. This state-of-the-art space delivers single-use consumables for vaccine production and cancer therapies. It was supported by the Welsh government and Covid-19 Taskforce as part of the national critical infrastructure for Covid-19 relief efforts. The facility created 250 local jobs.

Our Role

Our team of Architects, Building Services Engineers, Civil Engineers, Cost Consultants, Structural Engineers, Project Managers, Fire Consultants and Health and Safety specialists adapted to changing needs and project scope. We delivered the design of new highways and logistics infrastructure to support HGV movement, and the development of a wider masterplan, also managing the contractor and execution of works.

Added Value

Our team worked on this advanced high-tech facility in a tight timescale. The existing building had many design challenges, despite which our design prioritised the health and wellbeing of the occupants. As the scope of works grew and became more complex, we responded quickly, introducing additional services. We partnered with a leading global firm of specialists Connect 2 Cleanrooms to deliver eight ISO 6 standard cleanrooms.
