Gloucestershire Airport Runway Rehabilitation Staverton

Gloucestershire Airport is located at Staverton between Gloucester and Cheltenham and is ‘the UK’s busiest general aviation airport’. The airport required major upgrades to its crosswind and main runways. These works included resurfacing, installing new lighting, upgrading signs and drainage and providing new infrastructure below ground in preparation for a new radar system.

Careful phasing was needed to ensure the airport operations could continue and the project was widely acknowledged as the ‘single most transformative period in the airport’s history’.

Our Role

We were appointed during the tender stage and provided NEC Project Management and Cost Management services through to completion. We worked closely with our client’s procurement team during the tender process to facilitate the selection of the principal contractor.

Following the Board’s approval of the contractor, we managed and co-ordinated the carefully phased, fast-track programme of work with the chosen contractor, the design team and key airport stakeholders to ensure the operations could continue and to minimise disruption to the airfield operators.

Added Value

In addition to the day-to-day duties of project and commercial management, we provided technical and operational expertise to support our client’s key decisions. As this was the first project of such significance in nature and value for our client’s team, our experience and knowledge of the aviation industry proved invaluable in delivering this project.
