The Jigsaw Development forms part of the ongoing regeneration of the Green Man Lane Estate in Ealing.
The Jigsaw development comprises 770 new mixed-tenure dwellings, community facilities, retail spaces and a primary school. Working in collaboration with award-winning architect Conran & Partners, the project is a 50:50 joint venture between Rydon and A2 Dominion, to transform the existing estate into an attractive and sustainable community.
The demolition of 464 homes has allowed for the construction of new properties for affordable rent, shared ownership and outright sale.
Ridge prepared documentation to support the planning application and carried out full design services to prepare the construction information.
Ridge produced the engineering drawings using Revit 3D modelling, which enabled collaborative working between the design teams.
New mixed-tenure dwellings
The project required the development of ‘hybrid’ temporary/permanent structures and complex civil and structural engineering enabling works in order to facilitate the phased construction within an existing busy community, which remained fully functional during construction.
The site featured several complexities, including the requirement to retain all services for the existing blocks during the construction stages, and therefore required the development of highly efficient foundation solutions.
Ridge designed all the reinforced concrete frames, adopting Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for a fully value-engineered solution.
Ridge proposed a mixture of structural materials, ranging from timber frames through to reinforced concrete and steel frames, using state of the art structural analysis methods to maximise structural efficiency and enhance the architectural forms.
