In 2020 Ridge were appointed by HelloFresh to design and manage the fit out of a new 230,000sqft unit picking and packing distribution centre for HelloFresh.
Ridge were instructed as a multidiscipline team, to provide high quality accommodation that would be flexible and could accommodate high-tech refrigeration, storage, and racking systems. Key considerations included: flexible space requirements for product storage and picking, efficient and fast temperature-controlled facilities, and innovative freezing technologies. The new unit serves as a flagship hub for the business.
A fast-track approach was needed as the works were required to be designed and completed within 6 months, so HelloFresh could be operational at the start of 2021.
Specialist refrigeration design was required for ambient, chilled and blast freezer systems and the fast-track fit out of the spaces.
Working as a collaborative project team, Ridge brought innovative ideas to the project to provide and optimise efficiencies for the building fabric and services plant.
The challenges faced were to ensure the various areas of the building with specific temperature requirements were met for the January opening.
The location of the building is also within distance of residential property. Consideration of acoustic concepts and strategies to overcome and manage the noise of the plant was key to ensure HelloFresh could run effectively as a 24-hour operational facility.
The unit is 80% storage area and 20% office space. Also included were canteen, shower room and staff facilities, with dedicated parking and loading areas externally.
