Mayflower Theatre Southampton

The refurbishment of the auditorium at the Grade II listed Mayflower Theatre in Southampton.

Works to the theatre were to include restoration and redecoration of its interior, replacement seating, upgrading of lighting and modifications to the orchestra pit, together with the construction of new build extension to the side of the theatre to improve connectivity.

Ridge was selected primarily for its exemplary procurement and cost management expertise, to ensure robust contract documents and tight financial control of the project within rigid budget constraints.

Ridge led a comprehensive value engineering and cost reduction process following tender returns to provide the client with an acceptable contract sum.

    Schedule Refurbishment

The refurbishment of the auditorium was required to be undertaken within a 12-week shut down window and therefore it was critical that all design information was fully completed, co-ordinated and costs agreed with minimal residual risks remaining, prior to commencement. Thorough surveys of the existing building and a strong focus on the interfaces between specialist consultants and contractors was key to the success of the project.
