The refurbished hotel will be used as a training hotel for WCG students studying hospitality-based courses. The project received Heritage Lottery Funding to support its delivery.
Appointed at RIBA Stage zero, Ridge worked closely with the client to define a brief and project manage the appointment of the architect and completion of the design to RIBA Stage 2 within seven weeks. This included engagement with the local authority regarding the change of use planning application, as well as improved highway works.
From the outset, Ridge implemented a bespoke reporting process for the project delivery group and board of trustees. This included fortnightly project updates which also took account of the grant funding application process.
The site’s utility services required upgrading to accommodate the building proposals. The existing electricity is to be increased and new LPG tanks provided to serve hotel heating, hot water, and the new kitchen / cook school.
The project remains ongoing into 2021. A co-ordinated and collaborative approach to services installation between disciplines is key to ensuring the existing structure and build can accommodate new drainage, domestics and containment.
