Open University, Jennie Lee Building Milton Keynes
The project provided a new, state-of-the-art, iconic addition to The Open University campus.
With a set budget, funded by HEFCE, SRIF and the client, this project needed to be completed by a set deadline in order to secure funding revenues.
Ridge carried out detailed Cost Planning at all stages of the project, which resulted in several Value Engineering Workshops to maintain the client’s budget. Ridge prepared bespoke cost reports and, in turn, completed the university’s own, in-house cost reports and cashflows for use by the finance department in drawing down funds from the relevant streams.
The finished building features a central atrium area with circulation bridges and bespoke ETFE rooflight, laboratory spaces at ground floor with a further two storeys of open-plan offices with two main cores to provide flexibility of layout. The elevations comprise bespoke design curtain walling with reconstituted stone cladding panels to the rear and main entrances of the building.
