Press Shop for Jaguar Land Rover Castle Bromwich

Vertical extension to existing Press Hall building (increasing height from 12m to 23m), and new 6m deep pit within an existing building to facilitate the installation of a new steel press for Jaguar Land Rover at its Castle Bromwich site.

The project presented a number of challenges due to the location of the site which is flanked by live manufacturing buildings on all four sides.

Ridge worked closely with the client team, the press supplier and the contracting team to design a phased construction project that accommodated the complex structural and mechanical requirements.

The project included:

  • Upgraded floor loading capacity
  • 8m roof extension
  • Installation of two 60 Tonne cranes
  • Installation of new 6m deep pit
  • Upgrading of three full height walls to create two-hour fire compartments
  • Sequenced siphonic drainage installation
  • Three tiers of cantilevered mezzanines.

The project was delivered in an extremely tight programme through robust BIM procedures and integrated 3D working ethos between the Ridge design team and the specialist sub-contractors.
