The UK Battery Industrialisation Centre Coventry

The UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) is funded by the Faraday Battery Challenge, part of the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund

Ridge is providing a variety of services for the project including Project Management, Digital Engineering services (including BIM Information Management, BIM Coordination, 4D Simulations, Digital CDM Reviews) and Asset Tagging, as a client-side consultant team to UKBIC. The new manufacturing facility will contain a complex network of building services and process equipment, all delivered utilising Level 2 BIM processes against a challenging programme.

Initial activities involved engagement with key stakeholders to determine how their organisation operates and how digital processes would add value for the delivery of their new building and manufacturing lines. Through documenting the client’s strategic objectives via the Employer’s Information Requirements (EIR), Ridge also supported the procurement process by adjudicating technical compliance of the tender returns and advising on any required mitigation plans in the event of any shortfalls in capabilities.

Ridge is leading the development of agreed processes and have deployed A-Site Adoddle as the Common Data Environment (CDE) solution to provide a secure and centralised platform for exchanging project information. Ridge also provide Digital CDM Reviews where all risks identified by the team can be viewed in 3D as part of model, and 4D simulations to reduce programme risk associated with overlapping timing for the building and industrialisation programmes. Additionally, Asset Tagging provides a unique reference against maintainable elements of plant and equipment that links physical assets with the digital data stored for them. 


The combination of Digital Engineering service streams maximised the benefits of implementing digital standards and processes. The complexity of this scheme not only in terms of building construction, but also an industrialisation project, mean that delivery of the solution will be significantly better coordinated, with reduced opportunity for programme delays, and data deliverables for both building fabric and process equipment.
