This project includes the construction of three new purpose-built facilities on the campus-like grounds.
The client had a clear understanding for the requirements of all three buildings, which they communicated with Ridge. Building 141 was designed as an office/laboratory space, which buildings 142 and 143 were to function as hybrid start-up units, fitted out to a Cat A specification.
Serving as Cost Manager and Employer’s Agent on the project, the Ridge team undertook a series of cost option studies with regard to the external envelope. This exercise informed the design of an optimum value for money solution, without the need to compromise of quality or aesthetics.
From an aesthetic point of view, it was important to the client that the new buildings were consistent in style with the existing, in order to retain and promote the integrated campus feel.
Completed within budget and achieving BREEAM Excellent energy ratings, the three buildings are now welcome additions to Milton Park’s campus. Building 141 comprises 50,000sqft of office and laboratory space, accented externally by coloured Trespa panels.
Buildings 142 and 143 contain a combined total of 75,000sqft of high-tech office space for start-up science and technology innovators.
