Greater Manchester’s Bee Network is the UK’s largest integrated walking and cycling network. Led by Stockport Council, the initiative is advancing sustainable travel options within tight funding constraints.

We’ve assembled a team of project and programme managers to help Stockport Council deliver 14 ambitious schemes worth £25 million.

Integrated project and programme management

With deep experience in transport infrastructure and active travel design, we’re helping navigate the complexities of a growing town – and bring clarity to projects with many moving parts.

Working closely with stakeholders, we’re developing solutions that strengthen connectivity while keeping disruption down. The programme spans new walking and cycling routes – like the Lower Bredbury to Brinnington link – and major upgrades such as the Heaton Norris Park Bridge over the M60.

We’re also improving key junctions and crossings, including the Gillbent Road signalised parallel crossing and the Cheadle Hulme Crossings Package, creating safer, more welcoming routes for everyone.

Progress without compromise

Although the programme is still underway, strong progress has already been made. Each scheme is being developed within tight budgets, ensuring funding goes as far as possible without lowering design standards. A phased approach keeps traffic moving and neighbourhoods functioning while improvements roll out, making the shift to a more walkable, cycle-friendly Stockport smoother for residents and businesses.

A greener, more connected future

Together, these projects will benefit 2.7 million people by making active travel safer and easier. Better connectivity means more residents choosing to walk or cycle, easing congestion, improving air quality and supporting healthier daily routines. Stockport will play a key role in the Bee Network, helping build a more sustainable transport system for future generations.

Ridge has worked amazingly hard to bring systems into place for our walking and cycling development programme, organising multiple complex work streams and creating and keeping to a very challenging programme. They have managed to do this whilst bringing along a very wide range of people to achieve these milestones and that is down to their helpful positive attitude.”
