Swansea Arena Transformation

Swansea set out to create a landmark arena and public realm as part of its £135 million regeneration.

We provided programme management support – from employer’s agent duties to phasing and tenancy liaison – to help turn the Swansea Arena vision into reality. The wider scheme includes the 9,800m², 3,500-seat arena, a striking pedestrian bridge, new public realm spaces, mixed-use homes and retail, and a multi-storey car park.

Managing complexity through collaboration

With its curved façade, gold cladding and almost 100,000 LED lights, the arena was designed to give Swansea a moment of theatre the moment you see it. Bringing that ambition to life meant working closely with council teams, the development manager and a wide range of stakeholders, each with their own priorities and pressures.

Late-stage changes added further challenge. City-wide digital infrastructure and living green walls needed integrating without losing time or pushing costs off course. Through clear coordination and clear decision-making, we kept the programme balanced and moving.

Delivering the project through the pandemic required flexibility and a calm hand. Digital tools, open communication and a shared sense of purpose helped maintain momentum. At the same time, we worked with partners to protect heritage features, weaving the city's past into the heart of its future public spaces.

Delivering a landmark cultural venue

Swansea Arena opened in March 2022, becoming the UK’s first major venue to launch post-COVID. Despite unprecedented obstacles, the project was delivered on time. The arena now anchors the city’s wider regeneration, bringing new energy to the waterfront and offering a flexible venue for live music, culture and conferences.

Driving regeneration and community pride

The arena has reshaped Swansea’s skyline and brought momentum back into the local economy. It attracts visitors, supports businesses and offers a place for people to gather, something that matters more than ever.
