Pat has 26 years of professional experience in fire engineering, fire safety regulation, operational firefighting and incident command. He holds an MSc in fire engineering, a BA (Hons) in mathematics and an Advanced Professional Award in Legal Skills at master’s degree level. He is a member of the institute of fire safety managers. His career in the fire and rescue service provided Pat with extensive experience assessing compliance with the regulatory reform (Fire Safety) order 2005 and the building regulations 2010 (Functional Requirements B1–B5). He has inspected and assessed more than 800 premises across the full range of residential and commercial sectors, including high rise buildings, hotels, care homes, retail, industrial and education facilities. Pat has led legal proceedings under the fire safety order, for the service. He has worked closely with solicitors and legal teams, assembling and managing successful prosecutions for serious breaches of the Order and giving evidence in court as a witness of fact. Pat joined the Technical Expert Witnesses team at Ridge in 2026 and now provides expert advice and evidence on technical fire engineering and compliance with the Fire Safety Order and Building Regulations.
