Ridge has appointed Alex Dovey as a Partner in Project Management with additional leadership responsibilities overseeing Building Surveying and Cost Management. Alex brings over 20 years of construction expertise and a passion for delivering projects that truly make a difference. Based in our growing Cardiff office, Alex’s arrival marks an exciting chapter in our expansion across Wales.

Alex’s career began at Mott MacDonald in Cardiff, where he joined straight out of university as an Assistant Project Manager. From high-rise residential developments to international golf courses, his early work showcased a blend of versatility and precision. A five-year secondment to Hinkley Point in Somerset became a personal career highlight as he led the asset management team on a complex decommissioning project. An experience made even more meaningful by a personal connection: his grandfather had helped design and install the very systems he was tasked with removing.  

 In 2013, Alex joined Pick Everard, where he spent 12 years rising through the ranks to Directorship. During this time, he also served as the lead framework contact for the SCAPE framework, heading up project management, cost management, and building surveying. His work in the blue light sector – particularly across South Wales has been transformative, with over £150 million worth of projects delivered under his leadership. 

 Alex is passionate about sectors that shape communities including education, healthcare, and affordable housing and is energised by the industry’s evolving landscape, especially the rise of modern methods of construction, decarbonisation, and retrofit strategies. He’s particularly focused on delivering innovation within budget, ensuring that new approaches are both impactful and financially viable. 

 Commenting on his appointment, Alex said: “Joining Ridge at such a pivotal time for Cardiff is incredibly exciting. The opportunity to build something from the ground up – with a team that shares a clear vision and genuine passion – is what drew me in. Ridge’s multidisciplinary strength and collaborative culture create the perfect environment to deliver projects that truly matter to communities across Wales.” 

 Although a project manager by trade, Alex also has experience in building surveying and cost management. His goals for the first few months are clear: build a team that shares Ridge’s vision, grow the building surveying offering quickly, and expand into cost and project management. He’s already worked with colleagues from Ridge (when they were previously Jubb) and delivered projects like the Gloucestershire Constabulary HQ – so the foundations are strong. 

 He’s also keen to raise awareness of the frameworks Ridge is part of, working closely with partner organisations to unlock new opportunities.
