Gibraltar Barracks, Welfare Block Refurbishment Minley

Refurbishment of 1970’s Headquarters office building for 3rd Regiment Royal School of Military Engineers at Gibraltar Barracks, Minley.

The original building is a two-storey administration block, containing offices, conference room, server rooms and other ancillary areas. The existing services contained essential infrastructure, which supplies surrounding buildings on the live military site.

Ridge undertook a building condition survey which included recommendations. Subsequently Babcock appointed Ridge to undertake full design of the refurbishment works, which consisted of a new electrical services system (including installation of a new main supply cable from the local transformer), main switchgear & distribution boards, general & emergency lighting, small power, data & telecoms installation and a new lightning protection system. As the existing electrical infrastructure supplied surrounding buildings, the electrical refurbishment works had to be carefully planned to reduce the impact to other buildings on the live military site.

The Lead Design and Building Services team conducted regular site audits post-contract, ensuring that the contractor was producing work to a high standard and to ensure health and safety standards were being upheld.
