The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) needed a clear understanding of its global estate - 750 buildings across two continents – to support safe, informed decisions for years ahead.

We assembled an interdisciplinary team of building surveyors, MEP engineers and structural engineers to assess 34 sites across complex international settings.

Specialist surveys, delivered at scale

In six months, we surveyed 750 buildings and inspected 160 additional structures, covering more than 150,000m². From embassy offices and ambassador residences to storage blocks and secure compounds, every corner of each site was captured to build a complete picture.

Using digital data capture tools, we standardised information across the portfolio for accuracy and speed – essential in places with logistical and security challenges.

Accurate data, ready for action

The result is a clear and consistent estate baseline that replaces outdated records with a reliable dataset. The FCDO now has detailed, costed information covering building fabric and MEP systems, helping teams plan maintenance, shape budgets and prioritise investment with confidence.

Strengthening long-term estate strategy

Working in fragile environments required thoughtful planning and adaptable delivery. SAFE trained teams worked with local stakeholders to keep progress steady. The outcome is a strategic tool that strengthens long-term estate management and supports safe, efficient operation across the FCDO’s global network.
