Summary of KASOTC Driver Training Facility

The King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Centre (KASOTC) in Jordan required specialist off-road and on-road driver training facilities.
The new courses were designed to support advanced driver training across challenging terrain within an operational training environment.
We provided civil engineering and driving course design services from feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.
Our team surveyed routes and terrain on site near Amman, developing natural 4x4 courses, specialist off-road modules and a dedicated on-road circuit.
Opened in 2022 and 2023, the facility now forms a fully integrated part of the wider KASOTC training offer.

KASOTC wanted a driver training facility that could push vehicles and drivers to their limits while still fitting naturally into the surrounding landscape.

The challenge was creating realistic, demanding courses within a live operational environment where flexibility and practicality mattered every day.

Designing with the terrain, not against it

We delivered civil engineering and driving course design services, supporting the project from early feasibility through to detailed design and construction.

Working on site near Amman, we surveyed the existing terrain to identify routes and features that could shape the training experience. Rather than forcing the landscape to fit the design, the courses were developed around the natural topography.

The result includes a natural 4x4 course, specialist off-road training modules and a dedicated on-road circuit designed to expand the centre’s wider training offer.

Operating within a live training environment required close coordination throughout. Designs needed to remain practical, safe and adaptable as construction progressed alongside ongoing operations.

Built for realistic training

Working with the existing landscape helped reduce unnecessary earthworks while creating a more authentic and varied driving environment. Steep gradients, uneven terrain and changing surfaces became part of the experience rather than obstacles to remove.

A phased delivery approach also allowed parts of the facility to come into use earlier, supporting operational training before the full programme was complete.
