Birmingham Airport is investing £500 million to modernise its infrastructure, expand passenger capacity and reach net zero operations by 2033.

To support their wider investment programme, we delivered interdisciplinary services including building services engineering, building surveying, cost management and civil engineering.

Integrated expertise

Our teams supported projects from early feasibility through to construction, helping turn the airport’s ambitious masterplan into practical improvements.

A key initiative was thermal modelling of the existing terminal, which revealed opportunities to cut energy use and shape future heating and ventilation strategies. Our cost management team developed options that set out capital needs and long-term energy savings.

Lighting feasibility studies across terminal and airfield buildings identified where LED upgrades could reduce energy use and operational costs. Alongside this, we supported a range of operational improvements – from GSE EV charging studies to thermal upgrades for the airport fire station.

We also supported the expansion of baggage and immigration facilities, helping remodel the arrivals terminal to improve passenger flow and baggage handling. This included MEP surveys, geospatial input and risk-led planning to make sure new infrastructure slotted cleanly into the existing building.

Large operational environments rarely stand still. Many projects were delivered alongside day-to-day airport activity, requiring careful coordination and practical problem solving at every stage.
