Project and programme delivery
Gloucestershire Airport needed major runway upgrades delivered at pace, all while keeping the UK’s busiest general aviation airport fully operational.
The project involved resurfacing the airport's main and crosswind runways, alongside new lighting, upgraded signage, enhanced drainage and underground infrastructure for a future radar system.
Guiding a complex project in a live airport
We joined during the tender stage, providing NEC project management and cost management support. Working with the airport’s procurement team, we helped appoint a principal contractor whose approach worked with the airport’s operational needs.
Once construction began, we ran a phased programme, working with the design team and key stakeholders to minimise disruption. Delivering major runway works while keeping the airport active required careful planning and clear communication.
As the airport’s first project of this scale, the client team leaned on our aviation and operational experience to guide key decisions. Our involvement helped manage risk, maintain momentum and keep the project moving.
Modernised and future-ready
Over five months, our team completed 38,300 work hours, installed 10km of ducting and laid 20,000 tonnes of asphalt. A phased approach ensured the works were delivered on time and on budget, all while keeping the airport operational. The upgrades have strengthened the airport’s infrastructure, improving safety, reliability and resilience for years to come.
Setting the standard in aviation
Modernised runways and upgraded airfield infrastructure have strengthened the airport’s ability to support future growth, ensuring it remains a key hub for general aviation in the region.
