The Skyline building provides 430 student bedrooms in a mix of studios and clusters, management suite, common room, gym, study rooms and a sky lounge with external roof terrace and views over the New Forest to the Isle of Wight. The project includes all associated external works and drainage.
Although the site was purchased with an outline planning consent for student accommodation, which was granted following an appeal, the consented scheme had to be adapted to suit the client’s preferred layout and mix of accommodation.
The desire for the accommodation to be available in time for the new student intake also meant that the reserved matters and material amendment applications had to be prepared and submitted in a very challenging timescale.
To help mitigate programme risks, slipform construction was used to build the two lift cores and offsite, prefabricated bathroom pods installed in the en-suite bedrooms.
The completed scheme met the client’s challenging deadline and proved to be immensely popular with all bed spaces sold.
Our client and their investor were impressed with the entire professional team, who are now involved in further projects around the UK.
