Project and programme delivery
Manchester Airport Group (MAG) needed two new operational facilities at Stansted Airport to support terminal expansion, delivered within a tightly constrained live airport environment.
The project involved creating a Landside Office to process construction personnel and a Contractor Verification Point to manage secure airside access. Both facilities needed to operate seamlessly within the airport’s highly regulated security environment.
A secure and efficient access point
The project involved creating a Landside Office to process construction personnel and a Contractor Verification Point to manage secure airside access. Both facilities needed to work smoothly within the airport’s highly regulated security environment.
We provided project and cost management alongside interdisciplinary design services, guiding both buildings from concept through to delivery. This included coordinating the design team and making sure each design met strict operational and security needs.
Working in a live airport setting meant navigating busy roadways, existing infrastructure and the edge of the airside boundary. With ASIAD regulations and multiple stakeholders – including MAG’s security, environmental and operations teams – steady coordination was essential.
We managed these relationships closely, keeping communication clear and ensuring the design kept pace with operational needs. To keep disruption low, we placed the new facilities away from major underground services, avoiding costly diversions and reducing the risk of delays. A phased construction strategy kept the airside boundary secure while the works progressed.
Collaboration with MAG’s environmental team also led to a more efficient surface water attenuation solution – a small design shift that delivered meaningful benefits.
A secure and efficient access point
The project is delivering a fully integrated access facility that streamlines personnel processing while maintaining the security controls required in a live airport. Our phased approach has allowed construction to move forward safely while protecting the airside boundary and keeping disruption low.
Supporting expansion with minimal disruption
Through careful planning and close collaboration, we helped MAG deliver the operational infrastructure needed at one of the UK’s busiest airports. The result is a secure, efficient facility that supports Stansted’s growth while keeping day‑to‑day operations running smoothly.
