Buddh International Circuit in India needed to evolve from a Formula 1 venue into a circuit capable of hosting world-class motorcycle racing.

The challenge was meeting strict MotoGP safety standards without losing the circuit’s identity.

Adapting the circuit for MotoGP

Motorcycle racing demands a different approach to safety, run-off and circuit geometry, and this project was no exception. We delivered civil engineering, race track design and visualisation services, beginning with a full technical review of the existing layout.

We then reworked key sections of the circuit, introducing new barriers, run-off areas, kerbs and verge treatments to meet FIM Grade A standards.

The revised configuration streamlines the track into a 5km, 13-turn layout, while preserving the flowing character that made the circuit distinctive in the first place.

Delivering upgrades within a live programme

The project called for close coordination across design, construction and international event requirements.

We analysed every corner, surface and drainage element in detail, then provided full-time on-site supervision throughout construction. Our continuous involvement helped maintain quality, ensure compliance and resolve issues quickly as work progressed.

Bringing MotoGP to India

The completed upgrades enabled Buddh International Circuit to host India’s first MotoGP event in 2023. This is a venue that balances modern safety standards with a strong sense of character, helping establish the circuit as a major destination for international motorcycle racing.
