Chennai Formula Racing Circuit

Chennai wanted to transform its city streets into a world-class night racing destination for the first time.

The challenge was creating a competitive temporary circuit within a busy and highly constrained urban setting.

Designing a circuit through the city

Delivering a temporary street circuit demanded careful coordination between racing requirements and existing infrastructure.

We provided race track design and visualisation services, developing a 3.8km, 19-corner layout through Island Grounds, past key city landmarks and across the Cooum River. The route was shaped to balance safety, overtaking opportunities and the practical realities of building within a live urban environment.

We also supported programme coordination, helping to manage critical interfaces around the river crossing and surrounding infrastructure.

Supporting a landmark first event

Fast-track delivery left little room for error. By identifying potential risks early and working closely with stakeholders, we helped support a smooth route to the circuit’s debut event in 2024. The completed layout delivered competitive racing while fitting naturally into the surrounding cityscape.

Establishing a new motorsport destination

The successful opening event marked the first night street race held in India. The circuit has helped position Chennai on the international motorsport stage while creating a visually distinctive backdrop for future racing events in the city.
