Ridge strengthens Bristol team with three new Partners

23 November 2021

Property and construction consultancy Ridge and Partners LLP (Ridge) has appointed three new Partners in its Bristol office.

Supporting a booming pipeline of work in the South West, Ridge has grown its Bristol team by more than 40% in 2021 – delivering on projects including Royal United Hospitals Bath and City of Bristol College.

James Milne-Smith joins Ridge Bristol as a Cost Management Partner and brings a deep knowledge of the local market. James will push the strength of the Ridge multidisciplinary offer into new sectors, with a focus on health, residential, commercial, hospitality and leisure projects.

James joins Ridge from a 15-year career at Currie & Brown where he most recently held the role of Director.

“Ridge provides the opportunity to build on a market-leading QS team. It brings in-house expertise that sets us apart from our competitors and gives us a solid foundation from which to grow our sector base. Ridge is a sleeping giant in Bristol and the next 12 months will see a major shift in how we engage with local clients, contractors and developers.” – James Milne-Smith

Sarah Davis joins Ridge as a Building Surveying Partner and brings a wealth of experience in both private and public sector projects.

Sarah will draw on her public sector expertise to grow the firm’s roster of education and healthcare clients. She will also lead the Building Surveying team to develop its private sector offering, working closely with investment clients to secure opportunities.

Sarah’s management expertise will see her play an active role in talent development, building the breadth of expertise in the team and mentoring trainees through to chartered status. Sarah joins Ridge after four years at WSP where she was most recently Technical Director, co-leading a team of 24 surveyors across the country.

“Ridge has an unrivalled reputation for quality and expertise. This allows us to leverage our quasi-public sector experience to grow in all markets. We have a talented team of technical experts, and I am excited to see future talent rising through the ranks. This year alone, we have supported three Graduate Building Surveyors to complete their APC qualifications and achieve Chartered Surveyor status.” – Sarah Davis

Sam Mills also joins Ridge Bristol as a Partner and brings 21 years of structural and civil engineering experience. He will work closely with local contractors and planners to offer a full spectrum of structure and civils services, including engineering, design, and risk management.

Sam joins Ridge after seven years at international engineering consultancy Ramboll, where he was most recently a Director at its Bristol office.

“Ridge has a fantastic client base in the South West which spans complex housing schemes to ambulance headquarters. It also has the support networks, expertise, and pedigree to grow further. We have a broad skillset across structures and civils which, when combined with our other services, makes for a very powerful multidisciplinary offer.” – Sam Mills

Phil Baker, Partner at Ridge and head of its Bristol office, said:

“This is a hugely exciting time for Ridge in Bristol. Sarah, Sam and James complement our strong group of Partners who are already delivering on prestigious projects in the region. Our multidisciplinary service offers something different in a highly-competitive market, and, with a renewed focus on growth, we expect to see our Bristol team expand further in 2022.”

In 2021, Ridge has grown to more than 700 people across 13 offices in England. In October, Ridge announced its most recent acquisition, Projex Building Solutions Limited, which saw 36 staff join Ridge in Birmingham and Leeds.

Its expertise includes town and country planning, project and cost management, architecture, surveying, design, engineering, health and safety, sustainability, expert witness, and property consultancy. Founded in Oxford in 1946, Ridge is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
