Ridge welcomes Sarah Matthews and Milena Martinez to its expanding Transport Planning team

02 November 2022

We’re thrilled to welcome Sarah Matthews and Milena Martinez to Ridge to join our growing Transport Planning Team.

Joining Ridge as a Partner in our Reading office, Sarah brings over 25 years’ experience in the land development industry, working with both private land development clients and local authorities’ clients. She has led a range of land development projects from site identification/screening through to delivery, including the promotion of sites through local planning frameworks, supporting planning applications, developing masterplans, and funding bids on strategic mixed-use developments, housing developments, commercial schemes/campuses, education schemes, health centres and leisure centres.

Sarah joins Ridge from global consultancy Stantec, where she spent 23 years delivering area-wide studies, strategies, plans, policies and successful business cases for active travel (walking and cycling), mobility services (e.g. mobility hubs, Mobility as a Service), public transport/mass rapid transit, railway stations, highway schemes and packages, as well as leading and advising on early optioneering and option development and into feasibility studies.

Sarah joins forces with Traffic and Transport Partner Chris Long to grow Ridge’s Transport Planning offering, with a focus on strategic land development, transport master planning and placemaking, and public sector transport support.

Milena also joins Ridge from Stantec and brings a wide range of technical skills as well as keenness to develop client relationships and co-ordinate the growing transport team. She has over seven years’ experience in the fields of transport planning, planning and architecture. She has supported Sarah in the delivery of strategic land development projects, including preparation of transport evidence and technical work to support the Local Plan processes, liaison with stakeholders during scoping and pre-application stages, transport input to masterplans and development of sustainable transport strategies.

Speaking of her appointment, Sarah said:

“I have had a lovely welcome to Ridge and have learnt a huge amount about the range of skills and capabilities around the business in my first weeks. I am very excited about engaging with the passionate teams around Ridge to deliver excellent multi-disciplinary services to our clients. The most rewarding part of my job is working with clients to unlock development and create successful places. It is wonderful to visit a development, town, or area that I have been involved with from concept to delivery and seeing our vision and planning in real life and life-sized. I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to build a team of talented individuals who enjoy the very same challenge and outcomes. As Transport Planners, is it our responsibility to consider what the future will be like and help to shape it to achieve the best future we can. With the help of emerging technology and behaviour change, we have to balance carbon reduction and other environmental goals against health, social and economic objectives to create places and mobility solutions that achieve the best outcomes. It is a fascinating time for transport planners with so much change and need for change around the net carbon zero ambitions.”

Speaking of her appointment, Milena said:

“It is an exciting time to join Ridge, I have joined a rapidly growing business with great opportunities for the Transport Planning team. Sarah and I are looking to expand the capabilities of our team by focussing on good principles of development such as placemaking and sustainable travel, at a strategic level and early stages of development. To support this growth, over the coming months we are looking to recruit new transport planners with an interest in strategic land promotion and development.”
